Welcome to "SIZE" designed and developed by ANDERSON, GREENWOOD & CO.. SIZE is a comprehensive and flexible sizing program for Safety Relief Valves. All equations and derivations have been obtained from established API, ASME, and standard thermodynamic fluid data. ANDERSON, GREENWOOD & CO. assumes no responsibility or liability in any way whatsoever for any resultant loss or damage through the application of this software. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The basic system requirements are: - MS-DOS Version 2.1 or greater. - 512 Kb of main memory. - Monochrome video display. - One 360 Kb floppy and minimum 1.0 Mb free hard disk space. - A dot matrix printer for data sheet printout. SIZE comes on one 5.25 inch, 360Kb disk. SIZE will execute on any IBM XT/AT or any 100% compatible. HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ - Log on to the drive where SIZE is to reside. - Change to root directory by typing "CD\" and pressing . - Create a directory called "AGCO" by typing "MD AGCO" and pressing . - Change into this directory by typing "CD AGCO" and pressing . - Now copy the furnished diskette into this directory on the hard drive by typing "Copy A:*.*" and pressing . - SIZE has now been installed. - Type "MENU" to execute program. REPRESENTATIVE SCREEN This screen is to allow customized input of company information by the user. Type over current information and press ENTER to advance through the fields. When the Company name is changed, the revised name will appear on the print-out. Press the PgDn Key to advance to the sizing selection screen. ORIFICE CALCULATIONS FOR GAS/VAPOR, LIQUID, or STEAM - The Sizing Selection screen allows the selection of the method of sizing. This screen also allows you to change the calculation defaults for flow capacity in either scfm or lbs/hr. Press F4 to change units. The atmospheric pressure can also be changed to correspond to changes in enviromental factors. This screen also contains common metric conversion rates to English equivalents. - Press the appropriate Function Key and the corresponding input screen will appear for data entry. Use the key to move within the fields. - When data is complete, press F1 for orifice calculation. Sub-routines will display the following: A) Calculated orifice area. B) Maximum flow capacity. C) Reactive force developed from momentum through the valve and the jet stream. D) Noise level at a distance of 3 feet in dBA -MULTIPHASE FLOW- After orifice calculation, pressing Function Key F3 will enter the results into a mixed flow screen. Additional calculations can be entered and the screen will display a total of all data entered. Results can be edited with the key. - SIZE allows you to select the type valve for a specific service, and automatically recalculates orifice area based on the actual coefficient of discharge (Kd) for that specific valve. You may also select the "Other" option and enter your own model and Kd. - NOTE THAT ALTHOUGH ASME ALLOWS AN OVERPRESSURE OF 3 PSIG OR 10%, WHICHEVER IS GREATER, THIS PROGRAM USES THE CON- SERVATIVE FIGURE OF 10% FOR PRESSURES BETWEEEN 15-29 PSIG. -API SPEC SHEET- After calculation of orifice area, press Function Key F2 to change screen to API format. Some data entry fields will display a pop-up menu for selection. You may select the entry by pressing the corresponding number, or select "OTHER" and type in any information you want. Others will be user keyed. When data is complete, type "Y" and press to PRINT, or F7 to SAVE to file for later recall. You can now enter project name and the data will be saved to that file. To recall a saved file, return to the main menu and press Function Key F6. A listing of all saved projects will appear. Tab to the project to recall and press ENTER. The list of calculations saved under this project name will be displayed. Use the cursor key to select the calculation for recall and press . Records within a file can be deleted individually, or a complete file can be deleted by pressing the Function Key F7 from the main menu. Files are saved on a program called custom.dbf. This file can be transfered to a floppy disk for storage, and later recall. WARNING: Do not erase this file from the program ! DEFINITIONS SAFETY VALVE: An automatic pressure relieving device actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve, and characterized by rapid full opening or pop action. It is used for gas, vapor, or steam service. RELIEF VALVE: An automatic pressure relieving device actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve, which opens in proportion to the increase on pressure over the opening pressure. SAFETY RELIEF VALVE: An automatic pressure actuated relieving device suitable for use as either a safety or relief valve, depending on application. SET PRESSURE: Set pressure, in pounds per square inch gage, is the inlet pressure at which the pressure relief valve is adjusted to open under service conditions. OVERPRESSURE: A pressure increase over the set pressure of a pressure relief valve, normally expressed as a percentage of set pressure. BLOWDOWN: The difference between actual opening pressure of a pressure relief valve and the actual reseating pressure, expressed as a percentage of set pressure or in pressure units. BACK PRESSURE: The static pressure existing at the outlet of a pressure relief device due to pressure in the discharge system. CONSTANT BACK PRESSURE: Back pressure which does not change appreciably under any condition of operation whether the valve is open or closed. VARIABLE BACK PRESSURE: This varies due to changes in operation of one or more pressure relieving devices connected into a common discharge header. BUILT UP BACK PRESSURE: Pressure existing at the outlet of a pressure relief device occasioned by the flow through that device into a discharge system. SUPERIMPOSED BACK PRESSURE: Static pressure existing at the outlet of a pressure relief device at the time the device is required to operate. It is the result of pressure in the discharge system from other sources. REACTION FORCE: The discharge of a pressure relief device imposes a reactive load on the valve and inlet piping opposite to the direction of exit of flow.
